How Skateboarding Shoes Help You Skate Plus Some Key Features

So what exactly are skateboarding shoes and why do I need them? Aren’t my basketball high tops good enough?

Well, technically, you can skateboard in any shoe. Just like with any other sport, you can play in just about anything, but a professional football player would never dream of stepping on a muddy football field with basketball shoes and a basketball player would never dream of stepping on the court in golf shoes. Virtually every sport relies on good footwork and skateboarding is not different. Without the proper skateboarding shoes, you will never be able to control the skateboard and your body the way you want to. To make it worse, you could get hurt for no good reason.

So what makes a good skateboarding shoe you might ask?

First a skateboarding shoe has flat, grippy soles that are usually wider than normal shoes. Sometimes, skateboarding shoes will have extra padding on the side and on the tongue to protect your feet when you are doing tricks. Sometimes, skateboarding shoes will be thin and flexible to allow you to have better feel with your feet. This type of skateboarding shoe will still have a flat bottom to give you maximum area to control the board with. Some other features that skaters might want like include reinforced sides to protect the shoes when doing ollies or extra padding on the heels to protect your foot and cushion the impact of landing after a jump. While it may not seem like it, there is a lot of research and design that goes into making a skateboarding shoe.

So who makes good skateboarding shoes?

There are a lot of companies that make skateboarding shoes. Some of them are the professional skateboarding teams and companies. Some shoes are made by the big name shoe companies like Nike. No one shoe or one company is best for everybody. Once you get the basic features you need like a flat bottom and the amount of support and padding you want, go with a shoe that feels good. Every foot is different and many times, the shoes from one company or the other will fit your specific foot and feel much better than shoes that are more expensive with a different company. Sometimes, the best fit is the most expensive too, but when a shoe is expensive it will probably last longer than cheaper shoes and feel better too. One last thing to consider is image. Make sure you will be proud to wear the shoe you choose and look good wearing it.

One company that has been making skateboarding shoes for a long time is Etnies. They have done a lot of research on making the best shoes possible and are commonly considered to have the best shock absorbing device for skateboarding shoes as well as snowboard boots. I would recommend checking out a pair of Etnies so you at least have something to compare other shoes to.

Vans produces some high quality skate shoes and has been doing so for a long time. They know what skaters want and many people have come to think of Vans as meaning skateboarding shoes.

You can check out another article on skateboarding shoes on squidoo or check out some great deals on skateboarding shoes at www.skateboardplanet.net. If you are looking for great deals on all your skateboarding equipment make sure you check out SkateboardPlanet.net.

Regardless of what type of skateboarding shoes you want, make sure you try on several different types and find the one that fits you best. There is nothing worse than having bad shoes making you sore and keeping you off your skateboard. Don’t forget to make sure they fit your style as you also don’t want to be embarrassed to wear them.

Good luck in your search for the perfect skateboarding shoe!

However, sightseeing in New York City might not be the easiest or the cheapest experience. One thing you can do to save time and money is using a New York Pass. new york city events

How does the New York Pass work?
The New York Pass is a ’smart card’ - like a credit card with a computer chip inside - which allows you completely cash free entry to over 40 New York tourist attractions including Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, New York Skyride, Madame Tussaud’s, Circle Line River Cruise, Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Madison Square Garden Tour, NBC Studio Tours, New York Aquarium and etc.
Once you’ve bought your New York Pass you don’t have to pay to get into any of the attractions covered by the pass and the more sights you see, the more money you save.

Simply show the attendant at a New York Pass attraction your card, they will swipe it through a special machine and you will be allowed entry. For the full list of New York City attractions where you can get in free with the NY Pass.

he smart card records when and where you first use your New York Pass, as well as how long the pass will remain valid. Your New York Pass is then valid for the number of days that you purchased - be it 1, 2, 3 or 7 days. It is important to note that a ‘day’ is based on a calendar day, so should you first use your pass at 4pm on Sunday, Sunday is counted as day one of your pass usage. The New York Pass is valid for use on consecutive days only. At the end of your validity period, the pass will expire and will no longer allow access to attractions.
If, for example, you used a three day pass for the first time on Monday, your pass will cease working at the end of Wednesday, regardless of how often you have used it in between.

As well as free entry, the New York Pass allows you to skip long lines at the busiest tourist attractions. Simply look for the New York Pass signs and show the attendant your New York Pass - they will swipe your card through the New York Pass machine and you will be allowed entrance.

Harrah’s slashes costs amid slowdown

Harrah’s Entertainment is continuing to cut jobs and capital expenditures as well as costs in corporate, marketing and purchasing to combat a decline in customer spending, company executives said Friday.

The world’s largest casino company by revenue on Friday posted a third-quarter loss due to the gaming slowdown on the Strip, decreased visitor numbers across the company’s 50 casinos and the closure of properties in the Gulf Coast because of hurricanes.

“To the degree revenues continue to decline, costs will have to continue to come down,” company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Loveman said during a conference call to review the company’s earnings. “To the degree we see further erosion of revenue, we’ll continue to aggressively respond with cost reduction.”
