Infidelity is,unfortunately, all too prevalent these days. You hear about it everywhere; from TV chat shows to celebrity gossip magazines to rumours at breaktime in the office. Do we ever stop to think about the devastating effects that infidelity has on our society? Can all of this duplicitious behavior be good for the emotional well-being of our nation?

The ten commandments in the bible list infidelity as a big no-no in the eyes of the man upstairs. That tells us that even in biblical times many a married person was stricken with a case of the wandering eye. Adulterers of ancient times were often met with public humiliation at best and a horrible death at the hands of the public worst.

Although we may fool ourselves that we have progressed since then, most of the problems that beset society then are still prevalent now. Infidelity is like a stone dropped into a pond; and its effects can can encompass friends and family anjd spread to the whole of society.

Children are often more affected than anyone. They see their parents as role models on whom they shape their actions and behaviours when they grow up. Watching one parent deceive and lie to the other is not likely to help them treat others respectfully in later life.

Extra marital affairs quite often end in the divorce courts. This weakens the moral fibre of our country. If the solemn vows of marriage are viewed on a \”when it suits me\” basis, it erodes the reasons for making a marriage work.

When divorce is not the outcome, the infidelity is often hidden from the children to \”shelter\” them. This can lead to bitterness, lack of trust and suppressed anger which can lead to a family unit which provides a poor guide as to how an adult should act and gives a dysfunctional view of family life.

When children are surrounded by tales of deceit and lies, even in the office of the President, it provides them with an unstable learning environment. They are the future and them seeing the repercussions of weak relationships has a horrible effect on our society.

All in our society should make it their common goal to be faithful when they get married. It will help the people ofour nation become healthier and happier people and give our children secure environments in which to grow up .
